Working with our Masters Level Student Therapists

DISCOUNTED THERAPY & HIGH-QUALITY INTERVENTION

Why discounted therapy?

Secure Counseling Clinic has been part of the Kansas City Metro community for over fifteen years, serving clients across many socioeconomic, cultural, religious, racial, and gender backgrounds. Part of our mission to bring security to everyone we help is sharing our experience and teaching skills to new counselors who will continue our work. While the owners of our practice are seasoned with years of experience, that also means that their fees reflect their advanced credentials, post-graduate training, and experience. The way we bring that to families and individuals who lower fees, but who still require a highly-skilled level of care: Masters-level student therapists who are directly supervised and trained by our seasoned clinicians.

What is special about student therapists?

We are a teaching clinic. Students have a special spark and curiosity, a willingness to accept feedback and learn from their experiences with clients, while also having the back up confidence and clinical competency of their supervisor to guide when needed. Our practice offers deeply discounted session fees for clients who are willing to work with a student therapist who is under the training and supervision of one of the practice owners.

What are the terms of working with a student therapist?

Session fees for student therapists are $50/session, and we require a commitment of at least weekly sessions from you to work with our student therapists. This ensures their training is consistent, and you receive the level of care needed. Infrequently but occasionally, supervising clinicians may attend/observe student therapist sessions and/or watch video of a session. In these cases, the video feedback is centered on your student therapist's skills and development. Generally, case consultation on your work with your therapist is done through discussion 1:1 between student and supervisor or in a group supervision setting (1 supervisor with a group of students). Identifying information is hidden in group supervision unless video is observed. Case consultation is treated with HIPPA compliance.
